It took me some time of thinking whether can I write a decent article about Sydney or not. We spent only two days there, and besides that, didn't even beeing lucky with the weather. But going through the photos, I decided I can write something after all. World metropolis like Sydney leaves a lot of impressions, even though in just a short time.

Like other cities on the southeast of Australia, Sydney too shows some mixture of modern and Victorian architecture.

While walking the streets I noticed historic police station. I pulled out the camera and took some photos. But I wouldn't publish the photo if the next moment I wasn't approched by an older man. He greeted me with tipical Australian: "G'day!" "Are you photographing police or my house?" He pointed his finger towards the building next to it and smiled: "This is the safest house in Sydney." Therefore, on the photo below left, right of the police station, I show you that safest house :)

We all heard about Sydney opera house. I wouldn't think I can say something new and interesting. Anyway, from the photo below left, you can tell something brought my attention. That was the way, how main architect Jorn Utzon got the idea for designing a structure that resembles seashells. He found basic shapes by cutting a sphere. Every engineer likes simple and natural solutions.

Even more I was surprised, how detailed it is. Whole roofing is covered with ceramic tiles not much bigger than 10x10 centimeters.

Other things surprise too. Like that the Christ will return or for example, street self serve dog wash.

In vast Australian territories you can find many different animal species. Those you can't find anywhere else in the world. More interesting is how many of them you can find in the butcher's store. I was deciding between emu, crocodile and kangaroo. At the end I bought some kangaroo burgers. I made them in a more Balkan style. The taste I hardly compare to anything else. It's not bad, probably the closest to deer.

Not only the animals, the people are also different here. Or, I have to correct myself, they used to be different. Nowaday is hard to find many Aborigins - first inhabitants of Australian continent. The only ones we were able to see were street artists on the photo below left. As much as we managed to learn from local people, they are still considered inferior. Most of them live by social security and spend most of the money for alcohol. The government tries to fix injustice but just rising Aboriginal flags besides national one doesn't do much change. It feels more optimistic when some individual (white) tells you that more and more people support the ideas of the red-black-yellow Aboriginal flag replacing official flag of the country. British "Union Jack" doesn't represent a modern Australia any more.

Sydney is also known by its paradise beaches. Unfortunately the clouds didn't allow us to serve you with some paradise photos. But we didn't worry much because of that. Our next destination was Hawaii. We'll be definitely able to catch it up there.
